Projects supported by MISTRAL Pediatric may originate from a third-party clinician or developer, or from an SRI- or Stanford-internal working group. In some cases, the technology or device will be well developed and need a commercialization plan; in other cases the project will start with a clinical need for which a device or technology has yet to be developed.

Each type of project requires different levels of support and a strategy for advancing into the market place. MISTRAL Pediatric evaluates each project, performs a cost-benefit analysis, and determines the level and kind of support it can offer within the context of an overall strategy for bringing the device or idea into the market.
