Projects

The MISTRAL Pediatric medical device consortium brings together clinical, technical, and business expertise to focus on pediatric problems that require novel technical solutions and creative funding models. The goal is to enable solutions to clinical issues in the pediatric population that have been traditionally underfunded or neglected by the clinical marketplace.

We identify needs by constantly interacting with the pediatric community and by observing patients. Once an important need is identified, we establish a multidisciplinary working group to assess possible solutions, identify a development path, and design a sustainable business model. A plan is crafted and technical and business milestones are set. (For more about this process, see GET INVOLVED.)

The path to commercialization for each project may vary according to the technological maturity, available funding mechanisms, and business partners interested in its commercialization. If the product is aimed at addressing an urgent pediatric need, we will take every measure to advance the project as quickly as possible.

Our current areas of work include the following:

Surgery: Minimally invasive tools sized for children's pediatric procedures

Catheterization: Catheters that decrease the morbidity associated with placing and maintaining long-term implantation

Telemedicine: Technology platforms to increase the reach of clinical care for underserved pediatric populations

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): Approaches and devices to improve the quality of care for newborns in intensive care
